Creating Healing workshops

These workshops enable and empower everyone (beginner and professional) to come fully into their unique creative process, vision and power, where breakthroughs happen and healing occurs. The workshops are interactive and fun, and include individual energy work.

Aligning with Your Creative Power 1
Delivering Your Creative Power 2

These workshops form an arc, which explores the art of the creative process and the art of manifesting healing through creative "delivery". Discover where you block your process, and how to get on the path to expressing your creative power fully.

Release the blocks to your creativity. Be energized by your own creative power.

Learn to be more deeply connected with your creative gifts and to access creative inspiration at all times. These workshops are open to both established artists and to those who consider themselves "beginners" and "non-artists". During the workshops you will enjoy the experience of healing as individuals share their unique passions.

Matthew is available for individual sessions to help bring you into your power for creating healing for yourself, your family and audience!

the Bio-regional Movement

I've just read the book Dwellers in the Land: The Bioregional Vision, by Kirkpatrick Sale, and I already know it has changed my life! I can't recommend it strongly enough. The ideas of bioregionalism are not new, and they're actually pretty simple,.. yet they're profound and progressive in that they're just what is needed for the future. Here is brief statement, and some links for more information.

"A growing number of people are recognizing that in order to secure the clean air, water and food that we need to healthfully survive, we have to become stewards of the places where we live. People sense the loss in not knowing our neighbors and natural surroundings, and are discovering that the best way to take care of ourselves, and to get to know our neighbors, is to protect and restore where we live.
Bioregionalism recognizes, nurtures, sustains and celebrates our local connections with: land; plants and animals; rivers, lakes and oceans; air; families, friends and neighbors; community; native traditions; and systems of production and trade.
It is taking the time to learn the possibilities of place.
It is a mindfulness of local environment, history and community aspirations that can lead to a future of safe and sustainable life.
It is reliance on well-understood and widely-used sources of food, power and waste disposal.
It is secure employment based on supplying a rich diversity of services within the community and prudent surpluses to other regions.
Bioregionalism is working to satisfy basic needs through local control in schools, health centers, and governments.
The bioregional movement seeks to re-create a widely shared sense of regional identity founded upon a renewed critical awareness of and respect for the integrity of our natural ecological communities.
People can join with neighbors to discuss ways we can work together to 1) learn what our special local resources are, 2) plan how to best protect and use those natural and cultural resources, 3) exchange our time and energy to best meet our daily and long-term needs, and 4) enrich our children's local and global knowledge.
Bioregionalism begins by acting responsibly at home. Welcome home!"

need to find a place to buy no more than an hour and fifteen minutes from either Albuqueque or Santa Fe/Taos areas or strategically between both. Need at least five acres or exceptionally private if smaller acreage. Looking for a real physical place of beauty, a place of power. Been in Ruidoso a year and a half but I'm pretty ignorant of northern NM? I'll be heading up next week for an initial scout.

Hello, I'm a native New Mexican, born and raised in Albuquerque (Old Town/Sawmill area) until 8th grade, when my family moved south to Los Lunas, and later Belen. I went to UNM from 97-00, but never finished my degree. Instead I joined the Coast Guard, got married, had two kids, and have been living in Virginia (2 years), Hawaii (3 years), and now California (will be 4 years).
Next year I'm getting out though, and am moving back home to ABQ. I'll be going to UNM again to finish my degree. Anyway, I'm hoping to make some new friends here with common aims and values to meet when I get back. I'm looking forward to putting down roots and having a strong sense of place again.

Dark side of the Moon is play and this is a fictional short short story

it's cool when it works (wish i could say that about capitalism) Here's a super short short story

oh shit that was like I woke from a twenty seven year long coma - or more like I was born ... I don't even know why I thought that, that i would even know what it was like to be born, man? Feels like I'm being born right now like I want to throw off everything that was except (his) books. Most of the books sound cool seriously shit I might even read one. I swear to god man I never read any of those books - watched a lot MTV and sometimes the history channel, you know what I mean.

Damn totally lost it for a minute, you know what I mean. Like buzzing like a metal pipe but not a pipe like electricity goes right through my head like a cold, electric metal beam, man - shit!

Got me again, I don't know like a head rush, like a mad head rush, like eternity just BANG fuck man bliss white light love all of it crazy righteous and true - WORD

Seriously, you must know what I mean, man. Now ZI keep slipping in and out, you know, like nodding off to sleep and waking up or not really quite like swoosh gone here then there swoosh, nothing "real" nothing "right" nothing stable like everything is half a fifth of Jack Daniels spinning wildly and the only constant is ... ?

Wait for it ....

Wait ...

Me!

(see me and the baby crack ourselves up)

I heard from the NORML rep that numerous entities are finalizing their applications for a commercial med marijuana Providers license from the state so soon there will be more than one approved Provider - assuming all the applications are approved which seems likely.

love to talk to growers particularly - I hear there are only 23 licenses issued state wide for personal growing?

If you have never seen jupiter or saturn through a large telescope let me just tell you how amazing it is!!! Bring any drums or fire toys if you would like. There will be a big bonfire. There is also plenty of space to camp out, but it may be cold so make sure and bring warm stuff to sleep with. If you can bring a beverage and/or appetizer to share that would be great. Can't wait to see everyone!! Call myself or my boyfriend if you have any questions or need directions!!

Hi, I'm new on Tribe and have been living in New Mexico for nine years now. Never regreted it. Since moving here I have taken up writing while not working in government television. As a former instructor of television production, I have written a series of articles on the industry. They might be helpful for those interested in the film/TV industry that has grown around here. I've written other speculative articles as well. Anyway, this site and tribe is very cool and I will try to visit often.

Notice to All Fans of Organic Agriculture

NOTICE TO ALL FANS OF ORGANIC AGRICULTURE

A bill has been introduced this session at the New Mexico legislature
which would protect organic agriculture in the state from GMOs,
possibly even including genetic drift from engineered crops onto
others' land. It limits the powers of companies such as Monsanto and
lays liability squarely on the seed engineering company and the
farmer who decided to plant the crop.

If you support this bill – which you really should! – please call
your lawmakers to ask them to support this really exciting bill. It
is a good idea to perhaps both call your lawmaker, and write an e- mail.
I promise you: Your voice (when you use it) does
count. Lawmakers listen to their constituents. Please forward this
notice to any like-minded groups or individuals.

Senate Bill 560, introduced by Cisco McSorley, is dubbed the "Farmer
Protection Act." It requires a person intending to plant a GMO in any
open field to notify the director of the Department of Agriculture 30
days before planting. The notice must include the proposed locations,
kinds and variety of seed or plant, and the traits for which the
plant is genetically engineered. The Dept. of Ag. Secretary must then
report annually to the legislature on GMOs planted, county-by-county,
across the state. The bill would impose a civil penalty of from $500
to $5,000 for any farmer who fails to report a GMO crop planted. A
third violation restricts the violator from planting in New Mexico
for 12 months.

The bill also prohibits the production of a pharmaceutical crop of a
plant that otherwise is commonly used for human or animal food in an
open field, with a fine of $1,000 per violation.

The bill also limits the powers of a supplier of genetically modified
seed to go onto farmers' lands to take samples – we've seen several
truly egregious cases of this in past years. It states that a seed
contract between the farmer and the supplier cannot give the supplier
(Monsanto) the right to enter private property owned or occupied by
the farmer in order to acquire crop samples. The seed supplier must
obtain written permission from the farmer to enter.

The bill states that genetic drift of a genetically engineered plant
constitutes a private nuisance, and the seed supplier would be liable
if the release causes the unintended presence of the plant on any
person's property – but only if the farmer could prove the presence
of the unwanted genetics caused him financial losses. No person
owning property is required to create a buffer zone to prevent
potential genetic drift.

Here are a couple links.
To find which legislator represents you, try the legislature's link
below. If in doubt, simply send to all the most likely individuals:
http://www.nmlegis.gov/lcs/legislatorsearch.aspx

And, here are a couple of informational links on GMOs and the
aforementioned egregious examples of misbehavior by seed engineering
companies:

Peace and light,

I am a resident of Albuquerque and I wish to move to Los Angeles by Jan. 31, 2009. I am looking for someone I can live with with while there and exchange housecleaning for room and board.

Ideally, the person I drive with will reside in Los Angeles and be open to a roommate that helps with the household. I can only offer housecleaning and will not be able to help with gas. Also, I have some stuff with me, so a truck would be ideal.

Contact me, if interested: buckthesystem@hotmail.com

Thanks and Blessed be!!!!

Remember it is always subject to change (depending on where we might get kicked out of). Also we have updated the starting time to 7pm. If anyone wants to be on the phone text update just for that night please e-mail me your cell phone numbers and I will text you when we are arriving and leaving places, just in case anyone gets left behind. I have a few extra santa costume pieces if anyone didn't get a chance to get the santa suit together. Please let me know if you need them and I will bring them to our first meeting point which will be Patricks office on Agua Fria. Looking forward to spreading some holiday cheer for everyone to hear!!!

SantaCon in Santa Fe Saturday December 6th!!!

Don't know if this has ever been done here, but being from San Francisco I had to continue the tradition here. For those of you that are not familar with what this is check out this website. www.santacon.com/ Get your Santa suits ready to go out on the town!! So here's the deal (sorry for such a long post).

***Santa Fe SantaCon is December 6th*** That's right kids, SantaCon is coming!!! Just to let everyone know, I have listed the rules for SantaCon.

1. Santa does not make children cry. Really - If you see kids, give them nice toys, candy, or something pleasant. Parents and Tourists are a different matter altogether -- adjust based on their attitude.

2. Santa dresses for all occasions. It's December. Smart Santa’s wear multiple costume layers. Dress to maximize merriment whether singing Christmas carols in the snow, or swinging from a stripper pole.

3. Santa doesn't whine! We will be outside alot and commuting mainly on foot -- bring enough "snacks" to keep your pie-hole filled until we get indoors.

4. Bring gifts -- NAUGHTY gifts to give grown ups; NICE stuff to give kids. Throwing coal at people is discouraged no matter who they are. YES THAT INCLUDES POLITICIANS. But giving out coal is always ok….

5. Watching Santa get drunk and obnoxious is fun. Babysitting Santa while they vomit in an alley is not. Don't be that Santa.

6. Pay for your Beer and tip the bar staff, we want to be able to this again. Bribery gets you everywhere! Also pay for your beer or drink as soon as you get it. Other Santa’s get tired of waiting on Santa’s to clear their tab before being able to move on. This entire adventure should be a cash only. Credit Cards only take longer.

7. No Santa’s left behind. Don't go leaving one or two Santa’s in the process. Santas don't like that. Pick a few people you know and keep an eye out for them when it's time to move to the next location. If you don't see them, speak up so everyone waits. Every Santa should have at least 2-3 other Santa’s they look out for and that look out for them. We don't want to leave someone in the shitter and have them wandering around looking for us. Santa is safer in numbers. What one Santa couldn’t get away with without getting questioned, 50 can. Stick together Santa’s!

8. Memorize these answers to important questions that may arise:

* Who's in charge? "Santa"

* What organization are you with? "Santa"

* What are you protesting? "Nothing, Santa's having a party" (note: WE ARE NOT PROTESTERS!! We'd need a permit for that - and something serious to complain about...)

* How did you get here? "A sleigh and eight tiny reindeer"

* Where are you going next? "I'm only allowed to tell you if you wear this hat and buy me a beer."

9. Dress the hell up! You don't have to dress as Santa proper.
That's BORING! Variations of Santa-ness are deeply appreciated, both by those we bring joy to - as well as the other Santarchists! Variants of elves or reindeer or what-have-you are fine as well!

10. Please realize that this indeed is an event to have a hell of a lot of fun, and of course, with the assistance of liquor. It's not, however, an event to get shit-faced to the point that Santa’s end up insulting, fighting, degrading, or being assholes to people that run the places that we visit - or to the regular patrons that are there. Remember, we're LUCKY that they let THIS many jackasses into their places of business - and we'd like to keep coming back. Also, there is no "bail fund" for incarcerated Santii - so you'll be on your own with that.

11. Santa’s that drink should make sure that they are also Santa’s that can drive home, or make arrangements so that they don't need to. This is a no-brainer, but alas, I feel it needs to be said. I don't want any casualties. We need as many soldiers for "return tours", so to speak. With mass transit being what it is in Santa Fe, we suggest bringing a designated driver and of course carpooling as much as possible. The more Santii in each vehicle, the fewer individuals need to remain dry.

Santa Do's and Don’ts DO

* address every Santa as Santa, in the first, second, and third person, singular and plural.

* DO have something ready to hand out, even if it's just candy canes.

* DO many thorough soaks of your cleaning product containers before storing liquor in them. Santa's that want should bring flasks cleverly disguised as pine-sol.

* DO be ready for new adventure at a moment's notice. Santa is like a shark, and must keep moving in order to thrive.

* DO uphold the hallowed tradition of Never Washing the Suit.

* Let us not forget the sacred "four fucks":

o DON'T Fuck with Kids. I'm serious; this is supposed to be fun. Holidays are unpleasant enough for kids these days. If we can't brighten it at least we can be one less worry for them. If you see kids, give them nice toys, candy, or something pleasant. Feel free to hassle their parents though. Remember: The kids of today are the weirdos of tomorrow.

o DON'T Fuck with Security. If they ask you to leave a store, get the hell out and be nice about it, or other Santa's will take shit for it. Besides, they might call the cops and then we have to deal with the next fuck….

o DON'T Fuck with Cops. If the cops tell you to do something, DO IT. If you want to get busted, do it when you and I aren't dressed the same.

o DON'T Fuck with Santa and don't fuck with me or I'll puke on your suit, you damned impostor.

* DON'T quote a web address!

* DON'T point out someone!

* DON'T give out a name (except Santa!)

* DON'T supply an e-mail address!

* DON'T hand out a phone number!

More info of where we are meeting and what bars we will be going to can be found on the website. www.santafesantacon.com

We are still updating info as we make decisions, but at least the site is up. Make sure and get your santa suits ordered so they are here in time!! Links to cheap santa suits can be found on the site. Its going to be lots of fun!!!

Merry Fucking Christmas! And always remember Santa says, "Spread your Red!!!"

Hi, looks like not much activity in this tribe recently.

Myself and my friend David are coming to NM for 6 days, Oct. 15 -21.

I put out this post to expand my thoughts to All Recipient Beings of Good Will as well as all friendly humans in New Mexico. I have been guided to return to NM, and feel the need to connect with land out there and AZ at least once a year.

We will be exploring in the here and now, but will also consider all leads from friendly beings about enchanted, Sacred, energetic spots not widely traversed.

We will be flying into Albuquerque and citywise spending some time there and Santa Fe. The rest is a democratic Where the Spirit Leads.

Shadow Warriors, Mystic Priestesses, Well-grounded Aliens, and Benevolent Ones, here we come!

Blessings!

I'll be moving to Santa Fe to start massage school at the Scherer Institute, Sept 1. I'm looking for a room to share in a community house. I'm 25, female, clean, quiet, vegetarian, no baggage/drama, open to unique living situations. It would be ideal to live with fellow gardeners, eco-warriors, earth centered peoples with a background in holistic health practices...Know of someone who might be looking for me?

I dream one day that I will be asked or have the privlidge to attend an indian sweat lodge, and I don't mean an american one, or one made for americans there is a true difference in the ceremonies as well as the healing energy and just plain energy of one on indian land. I feel there is something here, or there waiting, calling me telling me that my presence is required and I must go. Yet go I do not know where and welcome I'm not sure I would be.
However it is still my dream and one day I hope I can see and feel it and be a part of it coming to truth to it's comepleteness at least once.

Eastern Perspective

I'm new here and lived in the east all my life. I love New Mexico mainly for the landscape. The electric blue sky. The mountain ranges punctuating the desert. I live a 7,200 ft in the shadow of a 12,000 ft peak and I can be hiking in a wilderness area after only a fifteen minute drive - that's very cool, The people here are so much mellower than back east. In fairness, the problem back east is that there are just so many people. I came from a suburb of Washington DC, Fairfax County, where the 2000 census showed over one million people just in that one county - what's that like a third the population of the whole state here? The only thing I'm having trouble dealing with is the water situation. I used to be a sea kayaker. The mouth of the Potomac river where it enters the Chesapeake Bay is twelve miles wide. Out here a little creek literally 12 inches wide is called a river. I don't think I'll ever get used to that but I do appreciate water now much more than I did before and a trickle of stream gives me a happy feeling - ah, water!

Except where a hawk wheels
His silhouette gliding round overhead -
At 7000ft a dry alpine breeze races
Down the side of 12,000 ft Sierra Blanca Mt.
Just the faint smell of pine and air clear as a whistle
I’m living in New Mexico time now, man
living in New Mexico time

Great Mother Whispers in the Canyon

I was walking back to my jeep down through a canyon near our home and praying softly in rhythm with the walking in a kind of mantra that I had made up. On the short drive up to the trailhead I had been struck by the winter beauty of the willows growing along the banks of the river. They were a purple-red color and bending slightly in the wind:
“Great Mother of us all
I supplicate myself before you
As the slender willows supplicate themselves
Before the winds along the river”
Repeating this over and over as I walked, not really taking it too seriously, just trying to focus my mind as I walked. But as I repeated it, I began to go deeper into the mantra, began to feel as though I were really giving myself to it more and more completely until I began to feel my body loosening, my will softening with the rhythm of walking, feeling myself opening and flowing, my body bending like the willows that I could still see in my minds eye:
“Great Mother of us all
I supplicate myself before you
As the slender willows supplicate themselves
Before the winds along the river”
And I began to feel a kind of oceanic peace settle over me - a very unusual feeling for me so quite noticeable - as I walked through the Ponderosa forest. Then our Gaian Mother whispered in Her female voice at once loving and authoritative, “you are not alone”
I smiled feeling gratitude and devotion wash over me as naturally as breathing. This was the only time that I had heard the voice of Gaia and Her words were reassuring beyond articulation. On the ride back from the canyon I crested an 8,000 ft pass and looked down upon the Sacramento mountains and the beauty of the scene expanded in my chest as felt bodily sensation of warmth. As it spread I felt a pure euphoria and thought, so this is what beauty “feels” like? How could I have never felt this before?
I give Her only my devotion and She gives me everything.

Seco Pearl's Grand Opening Gala will take place Saturday Aug, 11th.

Seco Pearl is the new boutique and tea house just behind the Snow Mansion in Taos. It is beautiful and wonderous, full of unique hand-made items and healing teas &foods.

Members of the Marching Band and Andromeda Crash will provide happy circus parade rock, while the elegant and ethereal voice of Rio En Medio will lead the evening into a beautiful and soothing tea party. Two Djs will continue the event late into the night, Padawanshaphan and Osyris, with world and downbeat rhythms.

Sit at the ceremonial puerh tea lounge or sip an herbal elixer from the tea bar, while watching the characters of Alice and Wonderland come to life. And there can never be too many mad hatters, so wear your finest mad hatting attire and come ready to smash a few cups. The exquisite and out-of this-world art of Zoe Stiler graces the walls and the hand-made fashions of the Seco Pearl design crew will thrill your senses.

The party starts at 5pm. Seco Pearl is located at 590 Hondo Seco Rd, just 75 yds beyond the Snow Mansion. Call 776 1225 with any questions.

Hi all,
Just wanted to share info about the Young Authors Competition--please spread the word!
thanks,
LaVon

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WRITING CONTEST FOR YOUNG WRITERS IN NEW MEXICO

Santa Fe, NM, June 18, 2007—Writers ages 14-19 in New Mexico are invited to enter the Young Authors Competition sponsored by the Santa Fe Short Story Festival. To attract the most diverse talent, the competition is open to all New Mexicans who are 14-19 years-old as of August 3, 2007, even if they are not enrolled in high school. Original short stories on any subject of up to 2000 words in length will be considered. Entries must be postmarked by August 3, 2007.

The finalists will compete for the four cash prizes to be awarded: $500 to the winner, $250 for the runner up, and $125 for the two honorable mentions. The four prize-winning stories will be read at the 2007 Santa Fe Short Story Festival by professional actors. Finalists (the four authors whose work is selected for a prize) may request a travel allowance if they live 100 miles or more from Santa Fe.

“One thing is clear—the world needs to hear the voices of young writers,” asserts David Olson, Artistic Director of the Santa Fe Short Story Festival. “One amazing way to reach out into the world with a strong voice is in the form of the short story.”

For more complete contest rules, the required submission form, and other information, interested individuals should visit www.SantaFeShortStory.org.

ABOUT THE SANTA FE SHORT STORY FESTIVAL

The mission of the Santa Fe Short Story Festival is to create a compelling literary event by attracting world-renowned writers and actors; to host educational opportunities through lectures, films and panel discussions; and to provide a forum for New Mexico writers to publicly read their works.

The Santa Fe Short Story Festival is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which began in 2005, and was founded by Tony Branch and Marsha Mason. As the only festival of its kind in New Mexico, the organization provides exposure and focus on the short story, an art form that has been ignored, but is seeing a resurgence in the literary world today. Through performance and reading aloud, whether by the authors themselves or by professional actors, the short story comes alive for audience members of all ages combining an element of entertainment with education. Some works may have never been read or heard before, especially certain unpublished works by new authors.

The 2007 Festival will take place on the campus of the New Mexico School for the Deaf on October 4, 5 and 6 under the Artistic Direction of David Olson.

Does anyone know what the salary ranges are for computer geeks with 20+ years experience? It could be network or programming.

Is there a reason why we don't have an Ethiopian restaurant anywhere in this state? I've looked everywhere in ABQ, but there are none. I haven't heard of one in SF either. Sadly enough the one Afghani restaurant we used to have in ABQ also closed down a few years back.

Can someone please start an Ethiopian restaurant?

looking for a place to stay in santa fe for 6 weeks may 28th-july 10th

Hey friends, and friends of friends,

I will be in santa fe for 6 weeks or so
this summer for a circus workshop with
Wise Fool, and I need a place to stay.
I don't need much, just a place to rest
my head.

I can spend a total of $400 for the six
weeks, but I am more than willing to
help with cooking and cleaning, laundry
etc. I don't take up much space and I
am easy to get along with. I would also
be willing to do some trade in exchange
for rent, depending on if any of my
skills overlap with your needs. I'm
good at sewing and other crafty-ness.

I will be there from May28th-July10th
give or take a day on either side.

Thanks so much!
and please forward to your friends!

Hi All...

I'm going to be revisiting Santa Fe this coming weekend. The last time I was in the area, tribe and it's network didn't exist. This trip, I'm hoping to connect with some folks I might have never met, were it not for tribe... My family has a lot of history out there, and I always feel as if I'm coming home when I visit. Santa Fe has always been a place I've "run" through kind of quickly, based on the mass tourism and my general dislike of "All That", but now that my best friend is moving there, I am more willing to let my pre-conceived notions go and open myself up to discover new parts and new people there. (was that a run-on sentence, or what?) Any suggestions and tips on what to do/see or of any gatherings would be really appreciated... Sending love & light from Cali

On September 26th an InterFaith group dedicated to ending the war in Iraq went to Sen. Domenici's office to read the names of men and women who have died in the war in Iraq. They were invited to take the elevator up to the Senator's office and when they got into the elevator staff members turned the power off and the 9 peaceful people read the names in the elevator they were trapped in.
They were arrested afterwards.

Elevator 9 Trial - Thursday April 12th at 9am at 421 Gold SW in Albuquerque
The Court House is at the corner of 5th & Gold, 1 block south of Central. Please come and bring your Peace and Antiwar signs - WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT!!!

Actually only 8 of us are going to trial, they dropped the charges against Jordan who was 15 at the time of the incident way back on September 26th, but Fr. John, Michella, Jan, Bruno, Sansi, Ellie, Philip and myself would really appreciate your attendance inside the courtroom and outside in front of the Courthouse. There is an article about our upcoming trial at www.freenewmexican.com/news/59049.html

The courtroom is small so people will have to rotate in and out with the people on the street protesting the war, and we need room for our own families, loved ones and witnesses. Please show respect for the proceedings when you are in the courtroom because unruly behavior would only reflect badly on the defendants and we are potentially looking at 30 days in jail.

Before than, I would hopefully like to make a couple of connections between here and there. Maybe find someone willing to play tour guide or suggest some interesting place / things to see. I'll be traveling hwy 10 from coast to coast.

Looking forward to my adventures.

Medical marijuana has one last chance in New Mexico

Hello Fellow New Mexicans!

A bill that would have allowed qualified patients suffering from certain illnesses, such as cancer, HIV/AIDS and epilepsy, to use medical cannabis for relief of their symptoms was voted down in the House last week, 36-33. The bill was The Lynn and Erin Compassionate Use Act (SB 238). This is devastating news, given that a) marijuana has a clearly demonstrated medical use (see, for example, the White House-commissioned Institute of Medicine report from 1999: http://books.nap.edu/html/marimed/) and b) marijuana will continue to be bought and sold on the black market where no one gets carded, quality is unregulated, and supply is uncertain.

The Senate has added SB 238's fundamental language into another bill, SB 523, in order to give the legislation a second shot at passing. But in order for that to happen, we need to contact the legislators who voted against SB 238 to encourage them to change their vote. Below are the legislators who voted against it. Please please please contact your rep. (if they're on the list) to encourage them to stand up for compassion and reason by voting for SB 523. If you're not sure who your rep. is, go to: http://legis.state.nm.us/lcs/legislatorsearch.asp
~You have been told by at least one out-of-state vendor that they don't ship to foreign countries.

~You can order your Big Mac with green chile.

~You have an extra freezer just for green chile.

~You think a red light is merely a suggestion.

~You can actually hear the Taos hum.

~You think the Lobos fight song is "Louie, Louie".

~You see nothing odd when, in the conversations of the people in line around you at the
grocery store, every other word alternates between Spanish and English.

~You know you will run into at least 3 cousins whenever you shop at Wal-Mart, Sams or Home Depot.

And finally you just might be from New Mexico if...

...about New Mexico. We're actually moving to Truchas in a few weeks! We've rented an awesome old adobe there and will commence shoveling snow and making paintings. We already make paintings--but now we'll be "New Mexico artists."

Yay!

I read on http://www.danbern.com that Dan will be playing the Santa Fe Brewing Company on Oct 21st.

Anyone else planning to attend? He's got a new CD coming out in Sept. called Breathe.

FYI, one of his songs is Albuquerque Lullaby, from the CD New American Language, the chorus to which is:

Don't let your heart get broken by this world
Don't let your heart get broken by this world
At the bottom of the ocean
You might find a pearl
Don't let your heart get broken by this world

It's a simple little tune I find myself humming to soothe my spirit when things aren't going my way.

Unfortunately, I left Santa Fe before the opening date, but it sounds like a fun option... especially since so many other places have shut down in town. Check it out when you can.

Celestine Prophecy Film in Santa Fe

http://www.thecelestineprophecy.com

Based on James Redfield's worldwide best-selling novel, The Celestine Prophecy is a spiritual adventure film chronicling the discovery of ancient scrolls in the rainforests of Peru. The prophecy and its nine key insights predict a worldwide awakening, arising within all religious traditions, that moves humanity toward a deeper experience of spirituality.

I grew up in NM, and now live in Northern California- where it has been raining A LOT.

I miss the smell of New Mexico Rain so much, my heart can barely tolerate it. Here it smells soggy and wet. I am looking forward to heading back and breathing in the clean desert air after a rainstorm.

Santa Fe Friday

Way to go, Santa Fe! Had a wonderful time in town, even if I didn't get to walk around quite as much as I might have liked to. The cooling trend in the weather made it so pleasant for strolling & casual wandering.

Tecolote Cafe was very pleasant for breakfast, but Tomasita's was fantastic; better even than I remembered from my previous visit. We arrived there at 2 PM, just as the lunch crowd was leaving, so parking was available & the service & food were superb. I could not have asked for a better experience for my husband's first visit.

There was an arts & crafts show setting up in the plaza, so we wandered all around the periphery, touring shops & museums. It was much more crowded on a Friday than it was on a Wednesday, but almost everyone was pleasant or at least civil, though everywhere we went, someone would mention San Diego, which made us wonder if we had it stamped on our foreheads.

We saw some really playful sculptures that would really do well for yard art for our big corner lot. I'll have to price some of them online before we make a return trip.

the situation in hell

The Situation in Hell

The following is supposedly an actual question given
on a University of Washington chemistry mid-term.
The answer by one student was so "profound" that
the professor shared it with colleagues, via the Internet,
which is, of course, why we now have the pleasure
of enjoying it as well.

Bonus Question: Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat)
or endothermic (absorbs heat)?

Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using
Boyle's Law
(gas cools when it expands and heats when it is
compressed) or some variant.

One student, however, wrote the following:

First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is
changing in time. So
we need to know the rate at which souls are moving
into Hell and the
rate at which they are leaving. I think that we can
safely assume
that once a soul gets to Hell, it will not leave.
Therefore, no souls
are leaving.

As for how many souls are entering Hell, let's look
at the different religions that exist in the world today.
Most of these religions state that if you are not a member
of their religion, you will go to Hell.

Since there is more than one of these religions and
since people do not belong to more than one religion,
we can project that all souls go to Hell.

With birth and death rates as they are, we can expect
the number of souls in Hell to increase exponentially.
Now, we look at the rate of change of the volume in Hell
because Boyle's Law states that in order for the temperature
and pressure in Hell to stay the same, the volume
of Hell has to expand proportionately as souls are added.

This gives two possibilities:
1. If Hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate
at which souls enter Hell, then the temperature and pressure
in Hell will increase until all Hell breaks loose.

2. If Hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increase
of souls in Hell, then the temperature and pressure will
drop until Hell freezes over.

So which is it?

If we accept the postulate given to me by Teresa during
my Freshman year that, "it will be a cold day in Hell before
I go out with you", and take into account the fact that I went
out with her last night, then number 2 must be true, and thus
I am sure that Hell is exothermic and has already frozen over.

The corollary of this theory is that since Hell has frozen over,
it follows that it is not accepting any more souls and is
therefore, extinct . . . leaving only Heaven, thereby proving the
existence of a divine being which explains why, last night,
Teresa kept shouting "Oh my God."

THIS STUDENT RECEIVED THE ONLY "A."

Aloha...I am feeling a calling to voyage from my home on the Big Island to Northern New Mexico in June and July and I will very much love to have a home to take care of while I am there. I am quite a home body and the idea of having a rooted place to sleep and be in for a month or two sounds lovely and perfect. I am involved in the Healing Arts here on this island and would love to talk with anyone who may have ideas of resources for me to look into or even perhaps feels called to offer up their space. Mahalo for the attention and thoughtfulness any of you may have given this posting. Many Blessings, Marie Rosalia

"Leave No Trace" Training Workshop May 20 & 21 (FREE)

Hello New Mexico Burners & Other Outdoor Enthusiasts
Here's something we may all be interested in.
Sophia

________________________________________
Hey everyone! Here's a fantastic opportunity to participate in a FREE workshop about "Leave No Trace" practices, May 20 and 21 in the new Ojito Wilderness Area just north of 3sidedwhole (North or Rio Rancho, in Sandoval County).

First off, let me say that "Leave No Trace" is one of the core principles of the Burning Man project, and is an essential world-view to cultivate. So I want to see as many of us from this community participate. This is important!

Secondly, we are incredibly lucky to have Mike Bilbo (aka Mirrorman) generously leading this training. Mike works for the BLM in the Socorro district, but he has also worked in Nevada and was instrumental in helping Burning Man acquire its special use permit in the 90's. He is deeply committed to this work, and has taught Leave No Trace trainings to many, many people all over the country.

And he assures me that it will be FUN!

Essentially what's involved is a 2 day trip, camping out overnight, and a hike through a range of different land types, from pristine to highly impacted. Along the way, participants will be taught to lead "mini-trainings" that illustrate how to successfully Leave No Trace. At the end, participants will be able to lead the trainings to others.

There is a little bit to coordinate in advance, so if you're interested, please contact Mike soon, at the number below. He's sent along some more info (see below) about the course as well. Call/email Mike pronto if you're interested.

I hope a bunch of you can make it!
Jonathan and all: I'd like to move forward on a Leave No Trace Trainers Course... So could you put out to everyone on the Main 3SW List that anyone who would like to attend, please contact me by email or phone right away. Thanks.

Mike Bilbo Outdoor Recreation Planner/ NM BLM Leave No Trace & Treadlightly Coordinator Socorro Field Office 901 S. Highway 85 Socorro, New Mexico 87801 Ph 505-838-1278, Fax 505-835-0223, E: mbilbo@blm.gov http://www.nm.blm.gov/recreation/socorro/socorro_rec_home.htm

Here's pertinent information:

Whomever plans to attend, I need their email or phone, so I can make the assignments and point them to reference materials. Everyone who takes this will be an official Leave No Trace trainer, to conduct trainings at schools, for Scouts, other organizations, and apply knowledge to 3SW and within various camps at BMan main.

The Trainer Course is a vital component of the nationwide Leave No Trace program. It is a shortened version of the Master course. Participants receive introductory training in Leave No Trace skills and ethics in a condensed two-day format. The Trainer Course assists the student participants in learning more about the seven principles of Leave No Trace and techniques for disseminating these low impact skills.

The Trainer Course is designed for educators, Girl and Boy Scout leaders, guides, Burning Man members, agency employees and other outdoor enthusiasts and professionals. LNT Trainer courses emphasize skills and techniques essential to LNT minimum impact outdoor ethics and education. However, LNT Trainer courses do not teach basic travel, camping or other outdoor skills, nor do they provide outdoor instructor certification.

Trainer Course participants gain the skills to teach Leave No Trace techniques and ethics to their clients, friends and family. Participants learn the concepts of Leave No Trace and prepare to teach Leave No Trace curriculum in a variety of settings-schools, camps, parks, wilderness and front country areas. Workshop topics include the underlying ethics and seven principles of Leave No Trace:

Plan Ahead and Prepare Travel and Camp on Durable Surfaces Dispose of Waste Properly Leave What You Find Minimize Campfire Impacts Respect Wildlife Be Considerate of Other Visitors

The LNT curriculum focuses on techniques for learning and teaching minimum impact outdoor ethics. LNT courses do not teach specific outdoor skills such as mountain climbing, river crossings, camping, etc. However, due to the nature of the Leave No Trace program, the Trainer Course is taught in an outdoor setting. Engaging in outdoor activities involves inherent or other risks and dangers that can lead to injury, property damage or even death. Individuals interested in participating in a LNT course should have basic outdoor travel and camping skills and be in reasonably good physical condition before attending a course. Participants are responsible for their own safety, and assume responsibility for injuries resulting from the inherent risks of recreational activities.

Core Components for Trainer Course Curriculum

1. A minimum of 16 total hours of experiential instruction, 10 hours of which must be conducted in the field. One night camping will occur. 2. The role and function of a Leave No Trace Trainer. 3. The principles and ethics of Leave No Trace. 4. Teaching skills and techniques and student learning styles. 5. At least one student led teaching exercise by each participant. 6. Overview of the national Leave No Trace program. 7. The role and function of Leave No Trace, Inc.

Trainer Course Completion

Upon successful completion of a LNT Trainer course, each participant will become a Leave No Trace Trainer and receive a completion certificate from LNT, Inc. Successful completion of the course requires participation in all course activities and teaching exercises. Those who complete the Trainer course are equipped to:

Understand, demonstrate and teach state of the art minimum impact techniques for friends, family or community groups; Lead a discussion on outdoor ethics and help others explore their own personal outdoor ethic.

It's still not completely finished *sigh* but we closed escrow on a new house in Ventana Ranch today. It's one of the last in the subdivision and they really left a lot until the last minute. Near as we could figure, it had something to do with model homes for the new Ventana Ranch West development being more important than finalizing homes they'd already contracted to build.

Now the really serious stuff starts... sorting through all the JUNK we need to get rid of before we move. Lots of armwrestling with the husband to follow...

Oh, right - I'm from San Diego, CA and I have family in Albuquerque, Los Alamos, Espanola, as well as those I'm leaving behind in SoCal. I'm relocating to enjoy living in a new home, because I love the Southwest and I'm ready for a change.

Any tips, pointers, relocation advice would be helpful at this point. Scoffers and irritated local folks are also welcome - as a San Diego native, I know what it's like to have people invade your home town and start making changes. One sunny Rose Bowl and 40,000 people move to San Diego from New Jersey!

Hey everyone,

I'm three weeks new to Albuquerque from Maui. I'd love some best kept secrets...or not so secret I suppose. Both in the city and/or especially outside it but nearby. I've heard about Sandia Crest, and the Jemez Hot Springs, though no specific directions. Anyone have any pointers? I'm also curious if there are any firespinners around.

thanks,

I think We want to move here- either Santa Fe or Albequerque

I don't even know if I spelled that right. my husband and I have been talking about moving here for awhile now. We've never been but read so much and we are big "foodies" and outdoorsy. But I am afraid of snakes and big spiders- eek! How do you deal? Anyway, just wondering about the job market out there, it's awful here (northern NW- WA). We wouldn't be moving with jobs waiting for us, I'm sure. It looks like there are mostly government jobs out there, here those are hard to get.. ..Also we have dogs, is it doggie friendly?
We would have to sell our house and look for one and buy before we went. Where are places that are nice to live (as in not scary, we're not rich! AT ALL)? At least, where WOULDN'T we want to live? Housing looks a little $$$ out there, so we would be busting the seams on the bank account at first...

BTW- I really appreciate any and all advice :) Thanks.

I have had many visitations, throughout this life, from my real life fairie godmother who happens to live mostly in new mexico...sort of near Taos. So I must visit her eventually.

I plan to visit there sometime this year and would love to make some friends who reside in the region. I'm really into fun, nature connections, visionary art, music and shamonism.

Oh...and I would really appreciate information on natural, undeveloped hotsprings.

Hi I’m moving to NM in February with my boy friend Dave (AKA Enoch). I'm excited to start a new adventure. I visited last year and was enchanted by the desert's beauty, and blue skies. I also met lots of friendly people. I'm looking forward to living on the Pecos River somewhere out side of Santa Fe.

Hello all! I moved to Dallas 2 years ago and I have not visited New Mexico since!

I miss it all so much. The food! Los Cuates!! Rio Grande Cantina! OMG, I dream of a real relleno with both green and red!

I miss the people most of all though. So laid-back and down-to-earth. Minding thier own business instead of everyone elses.

Then there is the beauty, the horizon, the sunsets, the mountains.

I just wanted to share with someone who would understand. New Mexico is heavenly and I hope to return someday.

What is your favorite thing about New Mexico?

I'm finishing my first semester of teaching 6th grade and I'll be rewarding myself with a road trip to Taos and Ribera. I'm super stoked and can't wait. It's been too long since I've been in a state of enchantment . . .

Moving to Northern NM

Fellow New Mexicans,
I'm a New Mexican (from Los Alamos) stuck out here on the East Coast. I want to come back to NM or CO, but I'm not sure what the job situation/economy is like out there. I'm thinking about uprooting and coming back without anything lined up beforehand--I'm finding it really difficult to get a job from far away. I can go for a few months without a job, but not much longer. I have a master's in public policy, so would prefer to work for a non-profit, or maybe state/local government. Anyone have any words of wisdom? Know of any job openings? Any advice on cool places to live in SF or Alb.?
Thanks!
Sarah

I have perceived that to be with those I like is enough,
To stop in company with the rest at evening is enough,
To be surrounded by beautiful, curious, breathing,
laughing flesh is enough,
To pass among them, or touch any one, or rest my arm
ever so lightly round his or her neck for a
